I love shooting my sporterized 91/30 MN but wanted to change out bolt heads due to an enlarged Firing Pin Hole which caused severe cratering in the fired primer. I found a new un-issued bolt head from the same arsenal as my rifle but felt that checking the headspace would be a wise option. Checked out several different No-Go Gauges but was turned off by having to spend almost half the price of the original rifle for one. When I found the Firewerks Gauge on Amazon I was a little skeptical at first because of the button appearance and the low price but decided to purchase anyway. WOW was that a good purchase. From the time I received it until I found the Headspace was OK took about 5 minutes. Just removed the bolt–placed the gauge in the Bolt Face Recess–put bolt back into the rifle with muzzle up and BINGO, Bolt would not close…

This headspace gauge is simple, compact and easy to use. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and at a reasonable price. A friend of mine purchased a much more expensive gauge which I checked against this one with the same results; rifle is safe to shoot. Throw in fast shipping and it is a win-win all the way around…

If you purchase one of these old rifles, the small price of this gauge is well worth the peace of mind in knowing for sure that improper headspace is not going to cause you safety concerns down the road. I had an M-1 blow up on me back in the 60’s due to improper headspace and believe me; learning first hand what 40 odd thousand psi can do outside the chamber is not a pleasant experience….

This is a very nice gauge. It’s well made, and it made sure my Mosin wouldn’t blow up in my face. The 2 things about this that really stood out to me about this particular line of gauges are that they work with the extractor in place (good as the guy behind the counter is more inclined to let you check this way) and the very reasonable price (I consider my face and the various organs residing upon and under it more valuable than $24 anyways but it’s nice to save money). So overall, a functional, convenient, well-priced item….[It] arrived on time, and it made sure my gun wouldn’t blow up in my face. What more do you want?

I recently purchased two mosins. After cleaning them up I started looking around for anyone selling these gauges. Firewerks was the only ones selling a gauge I could find that you didnt need to remove the extractor from your bolt to test the headspace. This made the purchase of these easy. The product is exactly as described and very easy to use. Would recommend to anyone looking for these tools to purchase them from Firewerks. Shipping was fast and commuication was excellent.

I had to get a replacement Bolt for my Mosin Nagant 91/30 and used the gauges to make sure it was safe to fire. Quick and easy to use, and confirm the bolt had the proper headspace. I was able to go to the range the next day and use my gun without having to worry about the bolt blowing up in my face. Now, if I get another Mosin I’ll be able to check it before I shoot.
